The top performances from the long weekend

The CJFL is pleased to announce the Week 7 Players of the Week following the Labour Day long weekend.  Games took place in both the BC and Ontario Conferences, while teams in the Prairies had the weekend off.

Now is the time to vote for the Fans Choice Player of the Week. Polls will be open until 9:00am PST on Thursday.

Offensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
RB Elelyon Noa – Okanagan Sun

The CJFL’s leading rusher was outstanding once again this past weekend carrying the ball 12 times for 125 yards and scored his league leading 12th and 13th rushing touchdowns.  This is the second time Elelyon Noa has been named the Offensive Player of the Week.

Ontario Conference
RB Rashaad Johnson – Ottawa Sooners

Rashaad Johnson led his Sooners to their third straight win of the season as he blasted his way to 203 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns.  Johnson flashed his speed with his longest carry of the day going for an impressive 93 yard major.  He also hauled in a pass for 18 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week

BC Conference
LB Sean Cullen – Langley Rams

Saturday afternoon the Rams defence pitched a shutout and completely shutdown the visiting VI Raiders holding them to 84 total offensive yards.  Linebacker Sean Cullen was solid making four solo tackles and intercepted a pass.

Ontario Conference
LB Mo Ibraheem – St. Clair Saints

In just over two quarters of work, Mo Ibraheem led a smothering defensive effort that stonewalled everything the GTA Grizzlies attempted to try on offence.  He tallied six tackles, 2.5 of them for a loss and when he wasn’t punishing running backs, he dropped back into coverage and knocked down a pass for 13 defensive points.

Special Teams Players of the Week

BC Conference
KR Kaleb Senz – Kamloops Broncos

The Broncos return man was busy on Saturday night on the natural grass surface of the Apple Bowl in the Okanagan.  He returned seven kicks, averaging 22.8 yards with each return.

Ontario Conference
KR Christian Phillips – Ottawa Sooners

Christian Phillips was a nightmare for the Skyhawks coverage teams as he returned three punts on Sunday for 105 yards (35-yard average), the longest of which was a 92 yard sprint, weaving away from tacklers for a touchdown.  He also returned a kickoff for 44 yards.

Polls are now open to vote to make one of these players the CJFL Fans Choice Player of the Week.  The polls will close at 9:00am PST on Thursday.
