A look back and the weekend across the Prairie Conference

Regina Thunder 45
Winnipeg Rifles 21

Rack up another 502 yards of total offence for the Regina Thunder on Sunday afternoon with 402 of it through the air. 

Quarterback Carter Moberg seemingly had no trouble moving the ball on Sunday, throwing for 402 yards on 16 completions and four touchdown passes.   Isaiah Woodley had a big game on the receiving end, making 10 receptions for 182 yards and a touchdown while Ben Walz hauled in 12 passes for 117 yards and two scores.

On the ground Justin Reiger rushed for a touchdown. 

The Thunder defence did give up 21 points, but saw interceptions from Sean McKerracher and Devin Baumann. 

On the other side, the Rifles jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, but could only muster seven more points the rest of the way. 

Receiver Miciah Stone got the Rifles on the board first with a four-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter.  Then quarterback Thomas Hubbard hit Adam Fast on a short three-yard touchdown pass to extend the Rifles lead. 

The only other touchdown came in the fourth when Chris Clarkson scored on an 11-yard scamper. 

Defensively the Rifles did force six turnovers, four of them were interceptions; two by Gage Richey. 

This coming weekend both teams will enjoy a Labour Day weekend bye.

Saskatoon Hilltops 50
Calgary Colts 18

Sunday afternoon the Saskatoon Hilltops completely dominated the Calgary Colts with their offence running up 563 total yards setting the tone with 21 first quarter points.

The passing attack threw for 333 yards, led by starter Trey Reider and his 321 yards on 17 completions, adding three touchdown passes.  He found Xavier Sabo, Noah Flaman and Landon Thibault for majors.  Sabo hauled in four passes for a game high 139 yards. 

On the ground, Boston Davidsen carried the rock 15 times for 190 yards and a touchdown. Corbin Ebben also got into the endzone with a run. 

Over on the defensive side, they shutdown the Colts and tallied seven sacks.   Kai Kukurudza was a beast with three sacks and a pair of tackles.   Riece Kack had 2.5 sacks and was an overall menace. 

The Colts dug themselves a hole in the first quarter and didn’t have much pushback after that.   Quarterback Liam Oszkowski threw for a touchdown to Jonathan Dikoume and ran for another one. 

Both the Hilltops (3-0) and Colts (0-3) will enjoy the Labour Day with a bye.

Edmonton Huskies 30
Edmonton Wildcats 19

Over 1200 fans took in the battle for Edmonton on Saturday night which saw the Huskies score 21 second quarter points to claim their second victory. 

Quarterback Carson Neitz used his arm for 272 yards, however it was his legs that did the most damage.  He rushed eight times for 39 yards and scored three touchdowns.  Ife Adebogun also ran one into the endzone. 

Defensively they collected three sacks and four turnovers, getting interceptions from Sam Kolkman and Cedric McCallum.

The Wildcats passing attack did find some success as well, gaining 304 yards with quarterback Caleb Taylor and Marcos Soltero each throwing touchdown passes.   Taylor hit Xander Matheson for an impressive 86-yard pass and run for a touchdown, while Jerel Brown hauled in the other major. 

This weekend both the Huskies (2-1) and Wildcats (0-3) will get a chance to rest their battle scars and enjoy the Labour Day bye weekend, while preparing for their rematch.
