The best from Week 3 of the 2023 season

The CJFL is pleased to announce the Players of the Week following an exciting weekend of football.

Offensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
QB Trey Reider – Saskatoon Hilltops

Sunday afternoon was a near perfect game for Trey Reider.  He came within 0.5 points of a perfect quarterback rating finishing 20-25 for 294 yards and threw three touchdowns in the Hilltops home opener win.

BC Conference
QB Tyran Duval - Valley Huskers

It was a career game for the Huskers pivot Tyran Duval who completed 26 passes for an incredible 478 yards and five touchdowns over the weekend.

Ontario Conference
RB LJ Dyer - London Beefeaters

In a hard-hitting game on a rain-soaked field in the nation’s capital to kick off the 2023 season, the veteran London ball carrier pounded the ball 23 times for a hard fought 110 yards and a touchdown ruining the Sooners’ home opener.

Defensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
LB Andrew McKay – Calgary Colts

Despite the loss Andrew McKay was a major player for the Calgary Colts on the defensive side making five tackles, assisted on five others and had a sack.

BC Conference
LB Demar Hohnstein - Westshore Rebels

The Rebels defence was outstanding in their Week 3 win in Prince George.  Demar Hohnstein had a game high of 10 tackles, and had a sack. This is his second straight weekly award after winning the Special Teams honour last week.

Ontario Conference
LB – Zach Chaddock

The 2022 Outstanding Defensive Rookie of the Year picked up where he left off last year.   In limited action where he led a stout Hamilton defence that saw the Hurricanes shut out GTA in the Grizzlies' home opener, Chaddock racked up two sacks, three tackles, one of which was a tackle for loss and recovered a fumble.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
KR Roy Tambal Musa – Winnipeg Rifles

With the Rifles and Edmonton Huskies in a hard-fought game, Roy Tambal Musa gave the Rifles a second half boost returning the opening kick-off 90 yards for a touchdown giving the Rifles a lead they would not relinquish.  He also returned four punts for 34 yards.

BC Conference
KR Ethan Porter – Valley Huskers

He was simply outstanding returning kicks, which included an 84-yard kick-off return for a touchdown on Saturday afternoon.  In all, he returned six kicks for 197 yards.

Ontario Conference
WR Luke LeMessurier – Hamilton Hurricanes

The personal protector on the Hamilton punt team turned in the most electric and unusual play of the weekend in the OFC when he astutely picked up the partially blocked Hamilton punt and raced 32 yards to the GTA end zone for the touchdown.
