The CJFL kicks off Week 2 of the season with three games played in the BC Conference.  This is the final weekend of rest for the other two Conference who begin play August 12 and 13th.

Kamloops Broncos @ Westshore Rebels – Saturday August 5, 4:00pm – Starlight Stadium | WATCH HERE

The Rebels are coming off a dominating 69-0 victory over their island rivals last weekend in Nanaimo and gained 503 yards of total offence.  This will be their first home game since last year’s Conference semi-final.

For the Broncos, this is their first game of the season after an opening weekend bye last week.  They have returned some weapons on both sides of the ball who will get tested immediately by the Rebels.  Last year they were outscored by the Rebels in two games, 81-34.

Players to Watch

Rebels - WR/KR Cairo Berry scored three touchdowns last weekend, making a pair of touchdown receptions and returned a punt 61-yards for another.  He is a lightning rod when he gets the ball in his hands.

Broncos - WR Colton Meikle is a threat if the Broncos can find a way to get the ball to him.  Last season the Second Team Al-Canadian led the Conference with 853 receptions yards, also hauled in 43 passes and seven touchdowns.

VI Raiders @ Langley Rams – Saturday August 5, 4:00pm – McLeod Stadium | WATCH HERE

A pair of winless teams will battle in Langley on Saturday afternoon when the Rams host the Raiders in their home opener.

The Rams are coming off a 26-18 set back last weekend at Valley, while the Raiders were shutout in their opener.

Over the past few years this has been a fun match-up to watch and this year will no doubt be the same.  Both teams have some young talented players mixed in with quality veterans.  After coming off the loss last week, this is an important game for both teams.

Players to Watch:

Rams – QB Trey Jones came alive in the second half last week and threw a pair of touchdowns.  He will look to ride that momentum into their home opener on Saturday.

Raiders – QB Ben Chomolok will need to have a bounce back game after last weekend not generating a point during their home opener.    If he can move the offence, the Raiders can be dangerous when they have the ball.

Valley Huskers @ Okanagan Sun – Saturday August 5, 7:00pm – Apple Bowl | WATCH HERE

This is a very interesting match-up with both teams winning their opener last weekend.  The Sun shutout Prince George, while the Huskers beat the Rams.

The Sun will celebrate their Canadian Bowl national title with their fans pre-game as this is the first time they play in front of the Apple Bowl crowd since winning last November.  They showed the rest of the country last week that despite graduating several star players last year, they are still a force here in 2023.

The Huskers want to be where the Sun are, celebrating a national championship.  They played a good game last week in their home opener but did cough up the ball four times and didn’t score a touchdown through the air.  They did most of their damage on the ground with Reece Wyke who chewed up 123 yards.

The winner on Saturday stays undefeated.

Players to Watch:

Sun – RB Tristan Peddle show his versatility in the win last weekend.  He rushed 16 times for 70 yards and scored a touchdown then leaked out of the backfield to make a pair of receptions for 22 yards and had another touchdown.

Huskers – DB/KR Christopher Rolack III was outstanding last week returning a kick-off 101 yards for a touchdown and had a pick six of 30 yards.
