The Regina Thunder hosted the 2022 Canadian Bowl after winning the Prairie Conference title and their defence was a major reason why.

Over the course of the eight regular season games, the Thunder defence allowed an average of 16 points a contest.  One of the keg cogs in their defence was linebacker Stephen Smith who will be returning this upcoming season and is a member of the CJFL Class of 2023.

Last season he filled the stats line as an All-Canadian with 34 tackles, 17 assisted stops, he had a sack and a half, two knockdowns, intercepted a pass, forced a fumble, and recovered one.   During the Canadian Bowl he led the Thunder defence with five tackles and seven assists.

He will be a major factor once again this season as the Thunder look to repeat their Conference title for the first time in franchise history.
