The Calgary Colts Junior Football Association is pleased to announce that Head Coach Greg DeLaval has signed former two-time CFL Coach of the Year and Grey Cup Champion Tom Higgins as the Defensive Coordinator for the 2023 CJFL season.

Coach Higgins brings with him an incredible amount of leadership and coaching skills from nearly every level of football imaginable. As a standout player at NC State, Higgins played professional football for the Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Buffalo Bills. He then moved on to a storied coaching career becoming a two-time CFL Coach of the Year recipient and Grey Cup champion. Over his career, Coach Higgins spent many years in dual coaching and administrative roles as an Assistant GM and GM for the Edmonton Eskimos. Coach Higgins also spent five years working directly for the CFL as the CFL Director of Officiating.

"There are only a handful of people in the world that have similar credentials to Coach Higgins in the sport of football" says Calgary Colts President Paul Dimini. "The fact that Coach DeLaval has been able to secure such a talented leader in Coach Higgins is a major boost to the entire Calgary Colts Organization."

To say the club is excited to have Coach Higgins join the team is certainly an understatement. Chairman of the Board, Brent Allardyce, believes Higgins presence will make an immediate impact. "Our football program has moved forward dramatically overnight. We knew Coach DeLaval would start building out his roster quickly, and the  hiring of Coach Higgins highlights his and our intentions of turning this football club into a renowned program."

The Calgary Colts are part of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and play within the Prairie Football Conference (PFC).
Founded in 1965, the Cagalry Colts have won two National Championships (1989 & 1990). Most recently, the Colts finished the 2022 season in 5th place in the PFC with a win/loss record of 2-6.
