An Ontario Conference Semi-Final between two rivals

Hamilton Hurricanes @ St. Clair Saints – Saturday October 15, 7:00pm – St. Clair College Sports Park | WATCH HERE

This will be the third meeting of the season between these two teams after the Saints won the first meeting by 14 points and then 10 just two weeks ago.  This is the first playoff match-up since the Saints changed their name from Fratmen.  The last time they met in the post season was the 2018 Ontario Conference title game in which the Hurricanes won 28-23 propelling them to the national semi-final in Langley.

The Saints have had another incredible run in the regular season finishing undefeated and ranked second across the country.  Their offence has proved they can beat the opposition either through the air or on the ground.  They averaged over 48 points a game including two wins in which they scored over 80 points.   They have been led by veteran receiver Jared Hayes-Williams who was named the Conference co-Offensive Player of the Year.  First year quarterback Andrew Brush has been solid and running back Jonathan Cartier has given them a threat on the ground.

Defensively the Saints don’t give up much.  They featured four All-Stars and held teams to 10-points game.  They can take over a game if needed and have a knack for disrupting the opposition’s offensive rhythm.

Speaking of defence, the Hurricanes have one of the best in the Conference.  As a matter of fact their two games against the Saints were the lowest scoring games.  They were the only team to hold the Saints highflying offence to under 25 points.  They feature linebacker Isaiah Joseph the Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

The Hurricanes are the only team in the CJFL playoffs with a losing record.  They scored 19-points a game with first year quarterback Kieran Dej who completed 70 passes for over 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns.

This game will come down to their defence, if they can hold down the high-powered Saints offence and put points on the board it will give them an opportunity to make an upset.

The winner moves onto the Conference championship game.
