For the first time since 2015 the Okanagan Sun finish the regular season undefeated after cruising to 47-point victory on Saturday night.

The offence was good, but the defence was outstanding. All-Star Kelon Thomas led the way with three sacks and forced and recovered a fumble.  Jacob Bond and Aleandro Van Holten each blocked a kick as they forced five turnovers and didn’t allow an offensive touchdown as several players saw live action.  As a group they held the Kodiaks to just 151 yards of total offence.

Two quarterbacks combined to throw four touchdown passes.  Starter Dominic Britton threw three and Avery Clayton threw his first CJFL touchdown.  Both Mike O’Shea and Noah Bymak each hauled in a pair of majors and Aidan Wiberg ran for another.

Their special teams were also magnificent.  Kemarr Bishop returned six punts, none more exciting than his 71-yard return for a touchdown.  Not to be outdone Nathan Tonogai returned a kick-off 106 yards for a score.

The lone bright spot for the Kodiaks came in the second quarter when All-Star Keon Raymond Jr returned a kick-off of his own 116 yards for a touchdown.

This coming weekend the Sun (10-0) host the Langley Rams (5-5) as the Canadian Bowl playoffs open.  The Kodiaks (1-9) have finished their inaugural season and will look to build upon some of the pieces they put in place this year.

Westshore Rebels 28
VI Raiders 9

The Rebels clinched a home playoff berth with their victory on Saturday night and are the second seed heading into the BC Conference playoffs this weekend.

This past weekend they picked apart the Raiders secondary as All-Star quarterback Te Jessie completed 20 passes for 393 yards and threw two touchdowns to Kieran Poissant.

Their defence also hit the scoreboard when De’von Young intercepted a pass and returned it 62-yards for a major.  He also had 1.5 tackles and three knockdowns.  Defensive back Josh Hoyt intercepted two other passes and five different players each recorded a sack.

The Raiders struggled in their final game coughing up seven turnovers.  Their lone touchdown came from quarterback Ben Chomolok when he rushed for a major in the third quarter.

This Sunday the Rebels (7-3) will host the Valley Huskers (7-3) in a BC Conference semi-final while the Raiders (1-9) begin preparation for next season.

Valley Huskers 32
Kamloops Broncos 29

It was a game that had plenty of offence as the teams combined for 881 total yards and 61 points as the Huskers just barely held on for their seventh win of the season.   Their seven wins ties a franchise record with their 2001 team who also finished 7-3.  They also clinched third place in the standings and will hit the road for a playoff game on Sunday.

The Huskers held a 27-7 halftime lead before the Broncos started to chip away and outscored the home team 22-8 in the second half coming up just a little short.  Running back Reece Wyke reached the 1000-yard plateau with 169 yards on 28 carries and he scored three touchdowns.  He becomes just the fourth Husker to ever reach 1000 yards.   Quarterback Josh Janssen threw for 234 yards and hit Eathan Porter with a TD strike.

The Broncos comeback attempt fell just short as Kaleb Senz almost single handily brought them back.  He rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 55-yard major to Colton Meikle on the highlight of the year off a trick play.   Meikle had a great game with 11 receptions for 150 yards and the TD.

This Sunday the Huskers (7-3) will travel to Westshore to play the Rebels (7-3) in a Conference semi-final while the Broncos (4-6) start to prepare for 2023.
