It’s a busy Week 10 of the CJFL season with all but one team in action.

SATURDAY

Ottawa Sooners @ London Beefeaters – Saturday September 24, 5:00pm – City Wide Field | WATCH HERE

This is a massive game for both teams as they meet for the second time this season with identical records.  This game could potentially mean a home playoff date for the winning team.

Back in Week 1 the Beefeaters handed the Sooners a 42-14 beating in Ottawa.  The Beefeaters used 261 yards on the ground to pound away at the Sooners’ defence and they forced six turnovers.  It was the first game the Sooners had played since 2019 and it showed.  Plenty has changed since then.  The Sooners have won four of their last five while the Beefeaters just snuck by Hamilton last weekend snapping their two-game losing streak.

St. Clair Saints @ Hamilton Hurricanes - Saturday September 24, 7:00pm – Tim Hortons Field

It’s the second game of the season between these two teams after the Saints won the opener 20-6 in the second game of the year.  Both teams each scored a touchdown, and the defences were solid not allowing either offence to really get going. To date these are the two stingiest defences in the Conference.

The Saints remain undefeated as the second ranked team in the country and will play in their final road game this year.  They have one more home game next week then will have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

Meanwhile the Hurricanes have won two of their last three losing last week after an ill-timed fumble resulting in a one-point loss at home.   They are looking to clinch a playoff date, but it will most likely be on the road. As a matter of fact, this game against the Saints is a potential playoff preview.

This will be the final home game for the Sun who are coming off a 49-7 victory last weekend over the Valley Huskers.  The Rams on the other hand have not enjoyed the same success as they did last year, however they are starting to heat up at the right time winning four of their last five games and will play in their final road game of the regular season.  They are coming off a 19-14 victory on the Island beating the Raiders.

Last week the Broncos used 457 yards of total offence for their third win of the season, snapping their three-game losing streak.  Quarterback Reid Vankoughnett was amazing with three passing touchdowns and three rushing TDs.  Receiver Colton Meikle was named the Conference Offensive Player of the Week with five receptions averaging over 44 yards a catch and hauled in all three touchdown passes from Vankoughnett.

The Broncos need to win to stay in the hunt for the final playoff spot in the BC Conference.

The expansion Kodiaks have lost three in a row and face the Broncos for the final time this season dropping both previous meetings.  They will have to cut down on the turnovers after coughing up the football six times last weekend in Kamloops.

They are the two hottest teams in the Prairie Conference, and they meet for the second time this season after the Thunder beat the Rifles 24-22 in August.  The Thunder kicked two field goals in the fourth quarter and their defence pitched a shutout in the comeback win.  Both quarterbacks threw for over 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns in game and the Rifles won the turnover battle 5-3.

The Thunder haven’t lost a game this season and that two-point win was their closest margin of victory.   The Rifles meanwhile have won three in a row and are coming off a 28-point win over the Edmonton Wildcats last weekend.

Currently these two teams are 1-2 in the Conference.

This will be the first of two meetings between these two teams as the season starts to wind down.  They are currently tied in the standings for the final playoff spot in the Prairie Conference so there is plenty on the line on Sunday.

The Hilltops have uncharacteristically lost three straight and are looking to right the ship with three games remaining in the regular season.  Two of their final three games are on the road including this one in Calgary.

The Colts meanwhile have cooled off and lost two games in a row and are finally at home after three straight on the road.  Last week they fell 45-27 in Edmonton to the Huskies. With three games left and two against the Hilltops, a team they are tied with in the standings, makes this game that much more important.
