A quick recap of the week that was in the Ontario Conference

St. Clair Saints 35
Ottawa Sooners 16

In an evenly played contest on the weekend the Saints remain undefeated making the eight-hour bus ride worth it by beating the Sooners.

It was a wild first quarter with 21 points scored.  The Sooners opened the scoring when quarterback Owen Cowan punched it in from a yard-out to give the home side the lead.  However, it didn’t last long as on the ensuing kick-off Dante Lewis returned it 85-yards for a touchdown tying the game.   Three minutes later the Saints were in the endzone again thanks to a 56-yard touchdown run courtesy of Jonathan Cartier.

Both teams elected to pound the ball on the ground with the Saints gaining 304 yards and the Sooners collecting 230. Cartier led the Saints with 138 yards and quarterback Andrew Brush chipped in with 105 and a score.  The Sooners on the other hand was more by committee with Cowan leading the way with 83 yards.

Through the air Brush completed just six passes for 121 yards and a touchdown to Jared Hayes Williams.  Cowan also had a quiet day with seven completions for 62 yards and a TD strike to Shamar Skerritt.

This weekend the Saints (6-0) play their final road game when they travel to face the Hamilton Hurricanes (3-3) and the Sooners (4-2) visit the London Beefeaters (4-2) in a massive game.

London Beefeaters 16
Hamilton Hurricanes 15

It was a game that literally came down to the last four seconds as the Beefeaters booted a single to win the game.

Defence was the name of the game in this low scoring affair.  Linebacker Isaiah Joseph lead the Hurricanes with 12 solo tackles and three assists plus Terrell Theberge and Seb Gottfredsen each had a sack.  The Beefeaters forced four turnovers as Jordan Wright and Marcello Dasilva intercepted a pass and Dylan Clarke had eight tackles, two knockdowns and recovered a fumble.

Quarterback Ethan Chambers gathered 137 of those yards and a touchdown on nine carries while Taz Bell rushed for 132 yards.  The Hurricanes on the other hand got a rushing TD from Kadien Williams and quarterback Kieran Dej hit Quinn Robertson for another major.

This coming weekend the Beefeaters (4-2) will entertain the Ottawa Sooners (4-2) and the Hurricanes (3-3) will host the St. Clair Saints (6-0).

Defensively they held the Grizzlies to 102 yards of total offence and forced five turnovers.  Jaydon Hay picked off a pass and rumbled 50-yards the other direction for a touchdown.
