The best from the Labour Day weekend

The CJFL is proud to announce the Football Canada Players of the Week following the Labour Day long weekend and Week 7 of the regular season.

Now its time to VOTE for the Fans Choice Player of the Week.  Polls are open now and will close on Wednesday at 7:00pm PST.  VOTE HERE!

Offensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
RB MJ Doyle-Marshall – St. Clair Saints

In a rematch of the 2021 Ontario Conference final, the rookie running back for St. Clair and his 121 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown led a stable of Saints running backs that pounded the London Beefeater defensive front for 347 yards.  Doyle-Marshall also contributed in the passing game making one catch for an additional three yards.

BC Conference
QB Reid Vankoughnett – Kamloops Broncos

In an exciting game in Kamloops with lots of offence, the Broncos pivot was outstanding.  He completed 27 passes for 395 yards and threw three touchdowns.  Thanks to his accuracy seven different receivers caught passes and three of them collected at least 100 receiving yards.  Vankoughett also rushed three times for six yards.

Defensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
DB Thomas Robinson – Quinte Skyhawks

Nobody watching the game between Quinte and Ottawa could blame Thomas Robinson for the Skyhawks’ loss.  The second-year player for Quinte did everything he could from his defensive back position as he accumulated 12 tackles (10 solo) and intercepted a pass which he returned for 12 yards.

BC Conference
LB Jaiden Claassen – Valley Huskers

For the first time in team history the Valley Huskers earned a seasonal series sweep of the Langley Rams and their defence was a major reason why.   Linebacker Jaiden Claassen flew around the field with a team high seven solo tackles and assisted on one other.  The victory was also significant as the Huskers captured the first ever Cascade Cup between these two teams.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
R Keyshawn Upshaw-Tynes – Ottawa Sooners

Upshaw-Tynes provided more than enough scoring all by himself for the Sooners win as he returned two kicks for touchdowns.  The rookie returned a kickoff 88 yards following a field goal for a score and then later, adding insult to injury, he returned a missed field goal 115 yards for a touchdown.  Upshaw-Tynes also returned a punt for 10 yards.  In all, he returned three kicks for a combined 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

BC Conference
K/P Simon Hales – Westshore Rebels

The Rebels captured their fifth win of the season over the weekend in Kamloops and kicker Simon Hales played an important role.  He connected on his only field goal attempt, knocking it through from 39-yards away and added a single during the game.  He punted eight times averaging 31 yards a boot and had five kickoffs averaging over 48 yards.

Now VOTE to make one of these players the CJFL Fans Choice Player of the Week.  The polls are open now.
