In the first ever “Cascade Cup” between these two rivals the Huskers claimed an exciting one-point win and earned their first seasonal sweep over the Rams.

After scoring 14 points in the third quarter the Huskers enjoyed a 17-7 lead heading in the final frame.  The Rams however stormed back with 15 of their own points in the fourth but it wasn’t enough. The Huskers tallied a pair of field goals and recorded the one-point win.

Quarterback Josh Janssen had a solid game completing 13 passes for 137 yards and found Dylan Manocha for a 23-yard major and Dayton Smythe for another from six-yards out.  The Huskers pivot did an excellent job spreading the ball around finding 10 different receivers.   On the ground the BC Conference leading rusher Reece Wyke continued to pound the rock with 123 yards on 26 carries.

Kicker Aiden Saunders was an important piece in the victory connecting on three field goals: hitting from 17, 20 and 23 yards away.

Defensively the Huskers did just enough to hang on for the win.  Christopher Rolack II picked off two passes and Shane Claridge added another.  Jaiden Claassen led the club with seven tackle and James Moar had the lone sack.

The Rams had their two-game winning streak snapped after scoring 15 of their 22 points in the final quarter.  Trey Jones threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns finding Terrel Jones and Derek Best from 20-yards out.  He also rushed for a major.

Over on the defence the Rams were busy.  Keegan Vicklund had a game high eight solo tackles and Joel Klaassen had six.

Next week the Huskers (4-2) will visit the VI Raiders (1-5) and the Rams (2-4) make the long bus ride up to Prince George to face the Kodiaks (1-4).

Westshore Rebels 32
Kamloops Broncos 27

Saturday was the second half of the home-and-home between these two teams.  It turned out to be a game with two different styles of offences on display with the Rebels scoring 21 of their 32 points in the second half on route to their fifth win of the season.

Last week the Rebels used almost an exclusive passing attack to beat up the Broncos on the island, however this weekend was a completely different style.  The Rebels pounded the Broncos on the ground to the tune of 255 yards led by Gerren Hardisty who rushed for 205 of those yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown.   Quarterback Te Jessie also scored a touchdown on the ground.

Speaking of Jessie, last week he threw for 401 yards, but this week he was held to only 103 on eight completions.   He did connect with Zion Brown-Dogbe and Cairo Berry for touchdowns.

On the other side the Broncos torched the Rebels secondary through the air as Reid Vankoughnett completed 27 passes for 395 yards and three touchdowns.  Colin Meikle, Brock Dufort and Chris Finden all hauled in touchdowns and gained over 100 yards each.  Finden led the way with a game high 11 catches for 131 yards while Meikle caught six balls and averaged over 22 yards a catch.

The ground game for the Broncos was non-existent gaining only two yards as the Rebels front four were spectacular in their run defence.

Next weekend the Rebels (5-1) will host the Okanagan Sun (5-0) in another first-place showdown while the Broncos (2-4) will enjoy a bye weekend.
