The CJFL is proud to announce the Football Canada Players of the Week following a very busy Week 6 of the regular season.

Now its time to VOTE for the Fans Choice Player of the Week.  Polls are open now and will close on Wednesday at 7:00pm PST.  VOTE HERE!

Offensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
WR Zion Brown – Westshore Rebels

Coming off a bye week the Westshore Rebels were able to pick apart the Kamloops Broncos defence through the air and a big reason was receiver Zion Brown.  He hauled in five passes for 129 yards, averaging over 25 yards a catch with his longest reception being 42 yards.

Prairie Conference
QB Carter Shewchuk – Regina Thunder

The veteran Shewchuk guided his team to their third straight win to open the season this past weekend.  The completed 26 of 33 passes for an impressive 367 yards and connected on five touchdowns.  He also kept drives alive with his feet rushing three times for 38 yards.

Ontario Conference
WR Jared Hayes Williams – St. Clair Saints

Jared Hayes-Williams, the Conference’s leading pass catcher through three weeks put on a show in Belleville as the Saints ruined the Skyhawks’ home opener as he hauled in five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensive Players of the Week

BC Conference
DB De’von Young – Westshore Rebels

He filled up his stat line this past weekend with an outstanding game.  He had an interception, knocked down two passes in the secondary and tallied six tackles in the lopsided victory.

Prairie Conference
LB Konnor Johnson – Saskatoon Hilltops

He was all over the field on Sunday in Winnipeg keeping his club in the ballgame.  He finished with eight tackles and had an interception, returning it 11 yards.

Ontario Conference
LB Quinton Hodgson – Ottawa Sooners

In an upset win on the road in Hamilton there was no bigger play than the 85-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Quinton Hodgson.  The turnaround took what was going to be sure points for the Hurricanes and turned it into a seven-point lead for the Sooners that proved to be the difference in this hard-fought battle. He also contributed an additional three tackles on the day.

Special Teams Players of the Week

BC Conference
KR Mike O’Shea – Okanagan Sun

Another week and another honour for O’Shea as he’s named the BC Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the third straight week.  With his dad in the stands on Saturday he returned eight kicks for a total of 222 yards and for the third straight week returned a punt for a touchdown, this time it was a 53-yarder. His 196 punt return yards is second most in a single game in Okanagan Sun history.

Prairie Conference
K Donovan Downing – Winnipeg Rifles

For the first time since 2006 the Rifles defeated the Saskatoon Hilltops and Downing was a major reason why.  He booted four field goals, two of which in the fourth quarter including the game winner with just over five minutes to play from 10 yards out.  He also connected on the only convert he attempted and punted eight times for 299 yards flipping the field.

Ontario Conference
LB Keenan McArthur – GTA Grizzlies

Despite the loss, Keenan McArthur provided one of the few bright spots for the Grizzlies.  With the Beefeaters backed up deep in their own end McArthur turned in a rare special teams triple play as he blocked the London punt, scooped up the ball and returned it 18 yards for the Grizzlies’ lone touchdown.

Now VOTE to make one of these players the CJFL Fans Choice Player of the Week.  The polls are open now.
