The top team in the country showed why once again on Saturday as their defence pitched a shutout in their fifth straight win of the season recording an incredible nine sacks.

This Sun defence held the expansion Kodiaks to 100 net offensive yards and just 28 on the ground.  Both Romareo Reid and Kwadwo Boahen each had a pair of sacks, Peyton Ryder had a team high five tackles and Matt Lord had an interception.

On the offensive side back-up quarterback Liam Kroeger got his first start and completed 11 passes for 163 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Coltin Peterson.  Running backs Jevon Garwood and Aidan Wiberg each scored majors on the ground.

For the third straight game, kick returner Mike O’Shea returned a punt for a touchdown, this time it was a 53-yarder.  Mike’s dad, Mike O’Shea senior who is also the head coach of the CFL’s leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers was in attendance.

Next weekend the Sun (5-0) and the Kodiaks (1-4) will enjoy a bye week over the Labour Day weekend.

Langley Rams 24
VI Raiders 13

The Rams picked up their second straight win getting scores on both sides of the ball and are starting to click as the defending champions.

Their offence was balanced as quarterback Trey Jones completed 11 passes for 160 yards and threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Terrel Jones.   On the ground Kairo Hassan rushed 22 times for 137 yards and Tristen Secord-Yanciw dove into the end zone from a yard out.

Over on the defensive side the Rams forced six turnovers and Dawson Morin jumped on a fumble returning it 74 yards for a touchdown.   Both Dane Campbell and Howard Jiao each picked off a pass.

The Raiders were shutout in the first half, then scored a very uncommon five points in the third quarter.  Their lone touchdown was scored on the ground by quarterback Ben Chomolok.

This coming long weekend the Rams (2-3) will host the Valley Huskers (3-2) while the Raiders (1-5) enjoy a bye.

Westshore Rebels 49
Kamloops Broncos 7

The Rebels came out flying on Saturday led by their quarterback Te Jessie who threw for 401 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers.  He also ran for a touchdown adding to the onslaught.  In total the Rebels put up 531 yards of total offence, most of it through the air, gaining just 88 yards on the ground.

Their defence was also very good shutting out the Broncos in three of the four quarters.   Both De’von Young and Josh Hoyt intercepted passes and Cordell Holder had a game high seven tackles.

The Broncos only touchdown was a passing score from quarterback Reid Vankoughnett to receiver Kaleb Senz.

This coming long weekend the Rebels (4-1) and Broncos (2-3) will battle again but this time in Kamloops at Hillside Stadium.
