Beating a team three times during one season is very difficult and that was proven again on Sunday as the Hilltops captured their seventh straight Prairie Conference title with a 20-point victory over the Thunder.

Their offence was almost perfect running the football recording 386 yards against one of the CJFL’s premier defences.  A healthy Carter McLean carried 25 times for 204 yards, Boston Davidsen rushed 19 times for 143 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Damon Dutton scored a pair of majors on the ground on his seven carries.

When they did throw Dutton completed 15 passes for 196 yards and hit Boden Marley for a score.

Defensively the Hilltops were outstanding forcing three turnovers and shutting the Thunder out in the second half.  Linebacker Konner Johnson collected five solo tackles and had a sack and Wade Keating picked off a pass and had a knockdown.

The only scoring the Thunder could muster on Sunday was three field goals from All-Star kicker Eric Maximuik in the second quarter.  The Thunder took a 9-7 lead into the locker room, but were snake bitten in the second half.

All-Star quarterback Carter Shewchuk completed 16 passes for 197 yards finding the Offensive Player of the Year Rylan Sokul just four times for 31 yards.

The Hilltops now move onto face a familiar foe on the national stage.  They will travel to BC to battle the Langley Rams in the CJFL National Semi-Final game on Saturday.  It’s the third straight season these two clubs match-up, the Hilltops winning both previous meetings in the Canadian Bowl.   Speaking of the national championship, the winner of Saturday’s contest will travel to Ontario on December 4th for the 2021 title game.
