The Edmonton Huskies training staff spring into action on the highway

The Edmonton Huskies season came to close on Sunday afternoon after a heartbreaking loss in Saskatoon in a Prairie Conference semi-final.  Little did they know their work would not be done.

On the way home to Edmonton the bus came upon a motorcycle accident on the highway just outside Saskatoon.  The motorcyclist had apparently collided with a deer.  The team bus stopped and the Huskies training staff jumped into action to assist as the first responders were on route.   The trainers stabilized the victim until an ambulance and STARS arrived to take over.

Thanks to their quick work and response, indications are that the motorcyclist will recover and is now in a local hospital being monitored.   He was very lucky, as the situation could have been much, much worse.

“This shows the character of the young women and men that participate in our programs,” says CJFL Commissioner Jim Pankovich.  “Thank you very much to Huskies’ training staff that helped, going above and beyond expectations in their caring actions regarding this motor vehicle accident victim.  Their actions made a difference this evening.”

Many thanks to the Huskies training staff who took over at the scene; Cassidy Ku, Shawna Crozier and Randy Kuefler along with Luca Cupelil, who is the team’s equipment manager that was running back and forth getting the trauma kit.  Defensive back Sheldon McNabb who is a paramedic student also assisted.
