The Huskies and Rifles are moving on

Edmonton Huskies 53
Calgary Colts 9

The Edmonton Huskies move on in the CJFL Canadian Bowl playoffs after dismantling the Calgary Colts on Sunday gaining 480 yards of total offence and rode a 26-point second quarter to the win.

Running back Alex Gayle was terrific again with 22 carries, 147 yards and three more touchdowns.   Brandt Burzuk had his best game of his injured season carrying 14 times and got into the end zone.

Back-up quarterback Carson Neitz played most of the game for the Huskies completing 16 passes for 240 yards and threw a touchdown pass.  Declan O’Flaherty had most of the day off, but did complete one pass for a nine yard touchdown.  De Shawn Le Jour caught both TD passes on the afternoon.

Defensively the Huskies held the Colts to just 170 yards of total offence and forced seven turnovers.  Roman Iwuc, Maurice Dubois and Ben Wilton each intercepted a pass.

The Colts lone touchdown came in the third quarter when quarterback Cole Belway found Tristan Remus-Avavalo from five yards out.

The Huskies will now move onto the Prairie Conference semi-final and meet the Saskatoon Hilltops in Saskatchewan this coming weekend.  The Colts season comes to a close.

Edmonton Wildcats 18

It was a back and forth game that saw the Rifles breakout in the fourth quarter scoring 15 of their 29 points on route to a quarterfinal victory.

In that final frame the Rifles scored early just 1:36 into the quarter when quarterback Bryson McNeil plunged into the end zone.  Then at 13:05 McNeil scored again on the ground, this time from 13 yards out.  He also completed 14 passes for 235 yards and hit Tim Solypa for a 10-yard second quarter major.

The highlight of the game came in the second quarter when Rifles linebacker Brandon Kamenz picked off a pass and rumbled 94-yards the other direction for a touchdown.  He also had four tackles and a knockdown.   Bryce Marino intercepted a pass as the Rifles combined to force five turnovers.

The Wildcats season comes to a close after quarterback Jonathon Ericson completed 18 passes for 246 yards and threw touchdown passes to Jacob Mihailides and Lucas Howe.

The Rifles now move onto the Prairie Conference semi-final and will visit the Regina Thunder this coming weekend.
