Valley Huskers 22
Westshore Rebels 17

It was arguably the biggest upset of the weekend has the Huskers picked up a massive road win for their second victory of the season behind a good passing game and solid defence.

Quarterback Josh Janssen spread the ball around connecting with nine different receivers, completing 24 passes for 278 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Dylan Manocha.   Receiver Mateo Tuioiti hauled in a game high seven receptions, gaining 73 yards, but it was Manocha who tallied 113 yards on six catches plus the score.

The Huskers ground game did just enough to balance the offence.  Brandon O’Connor rushed 11 times for 34 yards and had a touchdown.

Defensively Teyonne Albert collected three sacks and Andy Ofosuhene and Chavis Spencer each picked off a pass.

The Rebels held a 14-8 lead at halftime but could only manage another three the rest of the way as their offence sputtered in the second half.  Quarterback Colby Henkel did complete 17 passes for 284 yards and hit Kieran Poissant for a touchdown.  As a matter of fact Poissant was his favourite target combining for 169 yards on five receptions.

Running back Bronxx Comia chipped in with 54 yards on nine carries and did score a touchdown.

This coming weekend the Huskers (2-1) welcome the Langley Rams (2-0) and Rebels (0-2) host the Kamloops Broncos (0-2).

Langley Rams 7
Okanagan Sun 0

It was one of the strangest games in recent memory as the game lasted only three quarters.

About 10 minutes before kick-off, a large section of the Township of Langley lost its power due to a motor vehicle accident that included McLeod Park Stadium that did not allow for the game clock or play clock to be displayed. One of the biggest problems, with the late start, was the lights at the field could not turn on which meant a four-quarter game turned into a three-quarter matchup that was squeezed into just over an hour and a half.

In the third quarter the field was almost dark.  The only score of the game came in the frame when Rams quarterback Michael Calvert pitched the ball to Joel Klassen who rushed 33-yards for a touchdown.  In all Klassen rushed 16 times for 115 yards.

With the Sun driving, in the dark, in the late stages of the third quarter they moved the ball down to the four-yard line and couldn’t punch it in as the Rams defence held.  When the drive stalled, the game ended.

Defensively the Rams forced five interceptions, two of which from Beko Wande.  They held the Sun passing game to just 117 yards.

This coming weekend the Rams (2-0) will visit the Valley Huskers (2-1) while the Sun (2-1) hit the road again for a date with the VI Raiders (1-1).

VI Raiders 39
Kamloops Broncos 7

The Raiders recorded their first win of the campaign dominating the Broncos behind a well balanced attack and a 21-point first quarter.   Quarterback Jake Laberge had his best game of the season with 20 completions, 348 yards and three touchdown passes.  His favourite target was Alexander Bonnetplume who hauled in seven of those passes for 146 yards and all three touchdowns.

Jason Henderson led the ground game with 27 carries, 136 yards and tallied two more touchdowns.

The Broncos offence struggled against the Raiders defence mustering only 193 yards.  Their lone touchdown was a pass from quarterback Clark Snider as he found Ayden Cummins for the score.

This coming weekend the Raiders (1-1) host the Okanagan Sun (2-1) and the Broncos also travel to the Island to meet the Westshore Rebels (0-2).
