Westshore Rebels 6

A dominating performance by the Sun in their first “home game” of the season, crushing the Rebels who played in their first game of the year.   The contest was played in Chilliwack due to the ongoing pandemic and the restrictions in the Okanagan.

The Sun offence was led by a pair of familiar faces. Quarterback Dominic Britton completed seven passes for 159 yards and three more touchdowns, all of them to receiver Mike O'Shea.  The Sun also scored twice on the ground behind Kaiden Banfield and backup quarterback Alex Douglas.   Running back Malcolm Miller had another big game rushing 16 times for 114 yards.

The game actually started with a bang for the Sun when Matthew Sibley returned the opening kick-off 95 yards for a touchdown and the Sun never looked back.

The Rebels showed some first game rust especially on the ground collecting just 63 yards.  Quarterback Colby Henkel who missed most of the 2019 season completed 19 passes for 174 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Michael Oliva.

This coming Sunday the Sun (2-0) will visit the Langley Rams (1-0) while the Rebels (0-1) will host the Valley Huskers (1-1) in their home opener.

Langley Rams 22
VI Raiders 1

Both teams played their first games of the season but unfortunately for the Raiders their brand new home field didn’t produce the outcome they were hoping for. It marked the first time the Raiders hosted a game "under the lights."

Most of the Rams offence was courtesy of the pass gaining 211 yards through the air.  Quarterback Trey Jones completed 13 passes, two of which found Darian Pritchard for touchdowns.   Running back Tate Williams scored as well on a one-yard TD plunge.

Defensively the Rams forced three interceptions off veteran Raiders’ quarterback Jake Laberge.   Nathan Murray picked off two of those passes while Dawson Marchant had one.  The Rams “D” held the Raiders to just 46 yards through the air and 88 on the ground.

This weekend the Rams (1-0) will host the Okanagan Sun (2-0) on Sunday while the Raiders (0-1) will look to rebound when they face the Kamloops Broncos (0-1) in Chilliwack.

Kamloops Broncos 15

The Huskers looked like a different team in their second game with a well balanced attack leading them to their first win of the season.   Quarterback Josh Janssen threw for 111 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers.   Mateo Tuioiti, Ethan Porter and Reece Morrison each caught a major while Brandon O’Connor also scored but used the ground game to get into the end zone.

Defensively the Huskers forced three interceptions, two of which by Chavis Spencer and the other from Nick Gilberto.

The Broncos were playing in their first game of the season and took a bit of time to shake off the rust.  They ended up gaining more yards offensively than the Huskers combining for 276 net yards.

Running back Cam Gregorczyk galloped 94 yards on 17 carries and scored a touchdown.   The only other score came through the air when quarterback Matthew Wilson found Ethan Schnerch from 21 yards out for a major.

This coming weekend the Huskers (1-1) will play their first road game when they visit the Westshore Rebels (0-1) on Saturday before the Broncos (0-1) face the VI Raiders (0-1) on Sunday.
