The BC Conference kicked off their portion of the CJFL schedule this past weekend featuring just the one match-up between the Sun and the Huskers in front of the a tremendous crowd in Chilliwack.

The Sun used the big play to propel them to victory which included 446 yards of total offence.  Quarterback Dominic Britton was sharp in his first CJFL start completing 13 of 22 passes for 273 yards and connected on a massive 92-yard touchdown strike to Mike O’Shea in the early stages of the third quarter.  Britton also opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown dive.

Speaking of O’Shea he was simply outstanding making four catches for a game high 116 yards and returned a punt 79 yards for touchdown.  Kyle Zakala also hauled in four passes for 102 yards.

On the ground Malcolm Miller was the featured back carrying the ball 12 times for 128 yards and had a 70-yard touchdown scamper.  His running attack opened the Sun passing game and the big plays for O’Shea.

Defensively James Stockwood was a beast with five tackles, half a sack and caused chaos all afternoon for the Huskers offence.   Isaac Wegner intercepted a pass and had three tackles.

Despite the score the Huskers did show some promise. Offensively quarterback Josh Janssen showed off a cannon of an arm along with some nice touch passes.   He completed 10 pass for 123 yards and scored the lone Huskers touchdown with a one-yard TD plunge. Running back Brandon O’Connor also looked good with 18 carries and 54 yards.

This coming Saturday the Sun and Huskers will take part in the first ever BC Conference doubleheader. With games not allowed in the BC Interior the Sun (1-0) will face the Westshore Rebels (0-0) in Chilliwack and be the home team before the Huskers (0-1) welcome the Kamloops Broncos (0-0) in the night cap.
