The three best from Week 1

The CJFL is proud to announce the Week 1 Players of the Week following the three games in the Prairie Conference.

Offensive Player of the Week
WR Brendt Adams – Calgary Colts

He was the best offensive weapon for the Colts during Week 1.  Despite the loss, Adams was a threat making five receptions for 152 yards, averaging over 30 yards a catch.  He hauled in two touchdown passes including a 65 yard catch and run in the third quarter breathing some life into the Colts on Sunday.

Defensive Player of the Week
DB Joseph Funk-Clements – Winnipeg Rifles

The defensive unit for the Rifles saw plenty of action on Sunday and Funk-Clements was easily the best player on the field.  He collected a Conference high eight solo tackles and even forced a fumble.

Special Teams Player of the Week
K Doug Fleming – Saskatoon Hilltops

In a tightly contested defensive game on Sunday, special teams became so much more important and kicker Doug Fleming of the Saskatoon Hilltops was busy.  Not only the starting quarterback, but he also recorded 13 punts, which travelled 455 yards but it was in the dying seconds that Fleming kicked the Hilltops to victory.  After a defensive penalty and zero seconds left on the clock, Fleming booted a punt through the Huskies end zone for a single and broke the tie propelling the defending champs to an 18-17 road win.
