A new Frat in Windsor

A new beginning is set hit the field in Windsor as the CJFL will get its first look at the rebranded St. Clair Fratmen.   It seems like forever ago the Fratmen announced a new and exciting partnership with St. Clair College in Windsor and next month all the hard work will finally be put into action with the goal of winning an Ontario Conference title and hosting the Canadian Bowl on their brand new field.

What’s New:

In a word, lots.  The new ownership by the Saints Student Athletic Association Inc. of St. Clair College obviously brings with it a new name of the St. Clair Fratmen.  Another giant benefit for the football team is a brand new game and practice facility at Acumen Stadium on the College’s campus.  A new dedicated dressing room will also be constructed before long.  The traditional black and gold colours have changed to be more in line with the Saints athletic program so the Fratmen will be wearing green and gold moving forward.  A new website will be launched before the season which will highlight player stats and stories.  On the field the coaching staff added Mike Laino (DL), Sean Guenette (OL) and Taylor Tessier (Offence).

Finally, a new management structure is in place for the business side of the operations that includes a mix of St. Clair College Administration/Athletic Department staff, Student Leadership Members, Fratmen Alumni along with Community members.

Key Grads:

DB/LB Jalen Butcher –back in 2019 the multi-positional player compiled 14 tackles, had a sack, a pair of knockdowns and intercepted four passes

LB Blake Ouellette – he will be missed in the middle of the field after being named a Conference All-Star in 2019 making 23 tackles, 6.5 sacks, a pair of knockdowns, forced a fumble and recovered one

DB Dante Fonasiero – in his final season back in 2019 he was named a Conference All-Star with 15 tackles, had a knockdown and four interceptions

Entering Final Season:

WR Cody Holmes – the Fratmen are hoping for big things from Holmes coming off a 2019 season in which he was named the Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year in the Conference with 45 receptions for 683 yards and 12 touchdowns

OL Kyle Jennings – in order for the potent Fratmen aerial attack to have success the veteran Jennings and the offensive line will need to give their quarterback time to throw

LB Josh Allen – after a solid 2019 season Allen will be looked upon to pick up where a gradating Ouellette left off.  Allen made 17 tackles two years ago, collected a sack, had a fumble recovery and an interception

What They Need?

The Fratmen do appear to have decent depth at several positions however the kicking game is still a question mark.  The club is looking for a place kicker and a punter or a player that can do both.

Counting On:

WR Cody Holmes – he was a Conference All-Star back in 2019 leading all receivers with 12 touchdowns on 45 receptions and 683 yards

WR Jared Hayes-Williams – he was an All-Star in 2019 with a Conference high 50 receptions gaining 781 yards and tallied nine touchdowns

QB Michael Beale – the 6’4, 230 pound newcomer has an interesting story.  After graduating from Herman high school in Windsor Beale spent a year playing football at St. FX out east but then returned home to attend St. Clair College to play baseball and has done so for the past two seasons.  The 21 year old will compete for the starting quarterback position in his return to the gridiron

The new look Fratmen will open the season on the road at GTA on August 29th before their home opener on September 11th against the defending Conference champion London Beefeaters.
