Most completions in a regular season

The CJFL quarterbacks week continues.

Fair or not a quarterback is usually only as good as his last season.  This appears to be true at any level of football including the CJFL.

A quarterback, or pivot, is often regarded as the most important position on the offence.  Therefore that player gets the glory of the win, but equally the criticism after a defeat.  His sole job is to direct his team down the field and towards the end zone and score as many points as possible.  A recent study shows that a typical team scores on one-third of its offensive possessions which puts enormous pressure on the quarterback to generate points every time the offence takes the field.

During a season a quarterback can be up and down.  It’s the consistency however of his play that is the measuring stick for success, and of course how many completions he has.  Over the course of CJFL history, only one quarterback has hit the 200 completion plateau in a regular season and that was Stephen Schuweiler in 2015 for the Kamloops Broncos when he had two all-star receivers to find; Derek Yachison and Devin Csincsa.  As a matter of fact Yachison was named the CJFL Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year that season, thanks in large part to Schuweiler, the CJFL record holder.

The top 5 all-time leaders in completions in a single regular season are:

1 – Stephen Schuweiler -213 with the Kamloops Broncos (BCFC) in 2015

2 – Julian Marchand – 197 with the Calgary Colts (PFC) in 2007

3 – Ryan Marsch (pictured) – 186 with the Winnipeg Rifles (PFC) in 2011

4 – Jordan Yantz – 182 with the VI Raiders (BCFC) in 2010

5 – Hunter Lake – 177 with the Westshore Rebels (BCFC) in 2014

Each day this week a new category will be highlighted during quarterbacks week.
