Most receptions in a CJFL career

It's Receivers Week in the CJFL.

The principal job of a wide receiver is to catch the ball.  Sure, yards after the catch and scoring touchdowns is also on a receiver’s job description, but before anything else, he has to catch the ball.

Receivers need to be pass-catching specialists and in today’s game, if he can get a finger on the pass, he should be able to catch it.    A receiver should also possess on field speed and the ability to maneuver to the open space giving the quarterback a target to throw.

Once the receiver hauls in a pass, they attempt to avoid, outmaneuver or simply outrun the defence to collect as many yards as possible.

The evolution of the receiver has been incredible in the last few years.  For example, there was a time that a one-handed catch was a rare sight, but today it’s rare to not see a one-handed reception in a game. Receivers have better hands and are typically the fastest player on the offensive side.

Over the course of history in the CJFL there have been some amazing receivers that have really showcased their athleticism.  As we kick-off Receivers Week we focus on the top five leaders in career receptions and amazingly the man at the top only had eight games in the regular season to do his damage:

1 – Andrew Busby – 199 for the Saskatoon Hilltops (PFC) from 2004-2008

2 – Derek Yachison – 194 for the Kamloops Broncos (BCFC) from 2011-2015

3 – Cassidy Doneff - 184 for the Calgary Colts (PFC) from 2005-2007

4 – Matt Scheurwater (pictured) – 167 for the Okanagan Sun (BCFC) from 2007-2010

5 – Brian Remming – 163 for the Surrey Rams (BCFC) from 1991-1995

Each day this week a different category will be highlighted during receivers week.
