The CJFL defensive backs week rolls on.

A timely knockdown for a defensive back can kill the offensive momentum as they drive the ball down the field.

The knockdown is not as simple as it may look.  A good defensive back will need to use his anticipation, usually leaping ability and perfect timing to knock the pass away from an intended receiver.   If his jump is mistimed or he doesn’t correctly identify the receiver’s route it could spell danger for the defence.

Over the course of the CJFL history books there have been some dominate defensive backs that most offenses shy away from.  Quarterbacks and offensive coordinators usually scheme away from a good defensive back changing how they run the offence.

The defensive back versus receiver match-up is usually one of the most fun to watch as the game within the game.

The CJFL top 5 leaders in career knockdowns are:

1 – James Schafer – 23 from the South Fraser Rams (BCFC) from 2001-2004

2 – David Eshleman – 21 from the Abbotsford Airforce/Victoria Rebels (BCFC) from 2004-2007

3 – Karim Maher – 21 from the VI Raiders/Victoria Rebels (BCFC) from 2004-2007

4 – Jonathan Krahenbil – 20 from the Regina Prairie Thunder (PFC) from 2004-2006

5 – Brent Krawchuk – 17 from the Edmonton Wildcats (PFC) from 2006-2007

Each day this week a different category will be highlighted during defensive backs week.
