The CJFL Past Commissioner’s award is presented to a player each year that shows commitment to his community and to strive to make it a better place.  Caleb Haight of the Saskatoon Hilltops has done that.

Since 2016 Caleb has ramped up his community involvement and outreach.    He started by driving local inner city kids to court-mandated community service and volunteered at local church youth groups, then caught the bug of giving back.  The following year he became the defensive line coach for the Bedford Road Redhawks high school football team and did that for two seasons.   He also got involved with the Hilltops outreach program by representing the team in various parades and community breakfasts.  He tutored high school debate and volunteered as a judge for local tournaments.

Here in 2019 Caleb added to his community outreach resume by becoming the head coach of the Kensington Stampeders grade five/six-six-a-side football team.  He also volunteered with the Kinsman Hockey League, tying skates and running the scoreboard.  For the second straight year, during the Hilltops high school camp he volunteered his time as the defensive line coach.

Caleb Haight is most deserving of this award as the CJFL Past Commissioner’s award winner for community service.  He is just one of many players across the CJFL giving back in community outreach programs.

For example the BC Conference Ron White Community winner is Mitch Walz of the Okanagan Sun.   This past season Mitch organized a clothing donation for his family and to help the homeless in Kelowna along with volunteering as a coach for the Rutland highschool football team.   He also volunteered his time at the animal rescue farm Hoofprints and to represent the Sun at a number events including Easter Seals, CRIS, KidSport, the BC Games and the Hungry, Hurgry Charity Run.

These are just two of the players across the CJFL making a difference in their communities.

Congratulations Caleb Haight on being named the CJFL Past Commissioner’s Award winner for 2019.
