Westshore Rebels @ Langley Rams – Saturday November 2, 2:30pm – McLeod Stadium | WATCH HERE

For the first time in Conference history the Langley Rams and Westshore Rebels will meet in the Cullen Cup championship game.  The stakes are high in this first meeting as the winner will host the 112th Canadian Bowl in two weeks.

Since 2000 the Rebels and Rams have met seven times in the playoffs, all in a BC Conference semi-final.  The Rebels have won five of those meetings with the last game coming in 2017 when they beat the Rams 57-14.    In the seven meetings the Rebels have outscored the Rams 220-135.

When it comes to Cullen Cup championship games the Rams organization have been here 13 times before winning eight of them since 1982 including their last two appearances.  The Rebels on the other hand have been in this game seven times since ’82 and have won only twice; winning in 2016 and 2003.

However that was then and his is now and all those previous match-ups mean nothing on Saturday at McLeod Stadium.  The Rams haven’t lost a game this season and have beaten the Rebels twice this year outscoring them 94-33.

Offensively the Rams have used their well balanced attack against the Rebels.  On the ground Andrew Pocrnic has rushed for 285 yards in the seasonal series on 43 carries and has scored five touchdowns.   Meanwhile quarterback Duncan Little has thrown for five touchdown passes on 22 completions and has 437 passing yards.  He averaged 19.9 yards a completion.   Jarryd Taylor hauled in eight of those passes three for touchdowns and Khalik Johnson has two more touchdowns and 114 yards.

On the other side the Rebels haven’t had as much success on the ground.  They have been held to 44 yards with one touchdown.  Quarterback Shawn Lal has had to use his arm to move the ball against the Rams defence.  He has completed 33 passes for 419 yards and three touchdowns.   Brycen Mayoh has caught two of those majors.

Neither team will hold back on Saturday, with the winner hosting the Canadian Bowl.  The last two times the National championship game has been held in BC, it was in Westshore in 2016 and Langley in 2014.  It will be in one of these venues again here in 2019.
