The best in BC from the 2019 season

The BC Conference announced their Most Outstanding Players and Coach of the Year for the 2019 season as a build up to the Cullen Cup championship game on Saturday afternoon when the #1 Langley Rams host the #2 Westshore Rebels.

BC Conference Outstanding Players:

Ranji Mattu Memorial Coach of the Year – Howie Zaron – Langley Rams (10-0).  He led the Rams to an undefeated regular season and home field advantage throughout the 2019  CJFL playoffs

Outstanding Offensive Lineman – Nikos Lazarakis – Langley Rams

Outstanding Offensive Back – Andrew Pocrnic – Langley Rams – He won the BC Conference rushing title with 1199 yards on 163 carries, averaging 7.4 each time he touched the ball.  He set a new CJFL record with 26 rushing touchdowns.

Outstanding Receiver – North Rainey – VI Raiders – He caught 36 passes for a BC Conference high 729 yards.  He averaged 20.3 yards a catch and hauled in five touchdowns.

Outstanding Defensive Lineman – Cory McCoy – Okanagan Sun – He collected 19 solo tackles, four sacks and knocked down a pass

Outstanding Defensive Linebacker – Tyler Going – Okanagan Sun –Another great season with 32 solo tackles, five assisted tackles, two sacks, two knockdowns, a forced fumble and had two interceptions

Outstanding Defensive Back – Kyle Clarot – Langley Rams (second consecutive season) – He was force in the Rams secondary with 21 tackles, two assisted tackles, 5.5 sacks, four knockdowns, one fumble recovery and had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown

Outstanding Special Teams – Nik Hunchak – VI Raiders – He connected on four field goals this year, the longest from 30 yards out.  As a punter he showed a big leg with 72 punts averaging 41.9 yards and had five singles.  He added 45 kick-offs averaging 44.1 yards

Return Specialist – Brandon Poulin – Valley Huskers (second consecutive season) – he led the BC Conference with 29 kick-off returns averaging 20.7 yards.  He also had a Conference high 45 punt returns.  Perhaps the highlight of the season however was returning a missed field goal 118 yards for a touchdown.

Rookie of the Year – Linebacker –Abe Fimbo – Kamloops Broncos – The rookie made 38 solo tackles, had three assisted stops, knocked down three passes, blocked a kick and recovered a fumble

Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year – Defensive Back – Kyle Clarot – Langley Rams – What a year in the Rams secondary with 21 tackles, two assisted tackles, 5.5 sacks, four knockdowns, one fumble recovery and had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown

Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year – Running Back – Andrew Pocrnic – Langley Rams – He set a new CJFL single season touchdown record with 27, won the BC Conference rushing title with 1199 yards on 163 carries, averaging 7.4 each time he touched the ball.  He also set a new CJFL record with 26 rushing touchdowns. Out of the backfield he made 18 receptions for 279 yards and caught a touchdown.

Saturday afternoon the Langley Rams welcome the Westshore Rebels in the 2019 BC Conference Cullen Cup championship game at 2:30pm.  The winner of this game will host the 112th Canadian Bowl game on Saturday November 16th
