For the first time since 2012 the Beefeaters are Ontario Conference champions after an eight point road victory over the Fratmen.  Their offensive attack was a balanced one and their defence held the Fratmen ground game to just 78 yards.

Quarterback Jake Pow finished 13 of 18 for 178 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Daniel Jaffe. In all he found seven different receivers but Jaffe was his favourite hitting him seven times for 117 yards.  The ground game was also a major factor gaining 182 yards.  Tazie Vang-Bell rushed 19 times for 84 yards and scored a touchdown.  Brandon Gallant also rumbled for a major.

The Beefs’ defence forced six turnovers and even got on the scoreboard.  Codey McRoberts picked up a fumble and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and intercepted a pass as well.  Willie Mboko also intercepted a pass.

For the second straight season the Fratmen fall in the Conference title game.  Their offence struggled to move the ball on the ground so they had to rely on the pass attack.    The dynamic duo of pivots, Colton Allen and Daniel Mailloux combined for 23 completions, 349 yards and three touchdowns.   Both Cody Holmes and Jared Hayes-Williams caught touchdown passes and had massive games.  Holmes caught nine passes for 154 yards while Hayes-Williams also hauled in nine passes for 140 yards. Michael Ryan caught the other touchdown pass.

The Beefeaters will now welcome the Saskatoon Hilltops on Saturday in the CJFL National Semi-Final game.  The winner moves onto the 112th Canadian Bowl in British Columbia.  It’s the first time these two teams will meet since the 2012 National Semi in Saskatoon.
