GTA Grizzlies @ Windsor AKO Fratmen – Sunday October 20, 5:00pm – Alumni Field | WATCH HERE

For the first time in the CJFL post season the Fratmen and Grizzlies match-up in an Ontario Conference semi-final.  The winner will meet the London Beefeaters in the Conference final next weekend.

During this past regular season these two teams met twice with the Fratmen winning both games easily.  They played in Week 1 in Windsor with the Fratmen shutting them out 26-0, then met again on September 22nd in Etobicoke with the Fratmen again dominating winning 60-30.

This will truly be a “David vs. Goliath” match-up.  The Fratmen won seven games this year while the Grizzlies won two.  The Frat scored 261 more points than their opponents and gave up 109 fewer points.

The Grizzlies will need to find a way to contain a pair of interchangeable quarterbacks.  Both Colton Allen and Daniel Mailloux were named Ontario Conference All-Stars combining for a CJFL record setting 41 passing touchdowns to go along with their 2900 yards.  Of those 41 touchdown passes 21of them went to Jared Hayes-Williams and Cody Holmes who also combined for 1464 yards on 95 receptions.

Speaking of dynamic players the Grizzlies have Harvey Mafuta on their roster who has been one of, if not the best all-around player in CJFL history and doesn’t leave the field.  Offensively he collected 18 receptions for 352 yards and two touchdowns.  Defensively he had 29 tackles, a knockdown and three interceptions. Then on Specials he returned 14 kick-offs averaging 28.1 yards and had a 109 yard return for a touchdown, plus added 11 punt returns averaging 18.1 yards and had a 65 yard return for a major.  He also had five Special Teams tackles.  All of this as a rookie!

While the Grizzlies are scheming to get the ball into Mafuta’s hands, the Fratmen are scheming to keep the ball out of his hands.    Their unit doesn’t give up much, recording three shutouts this season.  All-Star linebacker Blake Ouellette leads the way with 23 tackles and 6.5 sacks.   Teammates Jalen Butcher and Dante Fornasiero each had four interceptions while Dalmas Lynch had three and a pick-six.  As a matter of fact the Fratmen defence led the Conference with 41 takeaways including 19 interceptions.
