London Beefeaters @ Hamilton Hurricanes – Saturday October 19, 2:00pm - Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex

The Hamilton Hurricanes host the London Beefeaters on Saturday afternoon as the CJFL Playoffs open up in the Ontario Conference.

Since 1976 these two teams have met six times in the post season and the Hurricanes have won four of those match-ups including just two years ago thumping the Beefeaters 44-7.

The last time the Beefeaters won a playoff game with the Hurricanes came in 2012 in the Ontario Conference title game.
This season the game will be played in Brantford Ontario at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex.

During the regular season the Hurricanes beat the Beefeaters in their lone match-up on August 24th in a 19-16 victory.  All of the Hurricanes points came in the second half as quarterback Ethan Belbeck threw two touchdowns.  The run game was virtually invisible thanks to the solid defence.  The Hurricanes rushed for just 49 yards while the Beefeaters gathered 85.

Both teams finished 6-2 during the regular season.  The Hurricanes finished the year winning two of their last three while the Beefeaters are winners of five of their last six.

Defence has been outstanding for both teams.  The Beefeaters allowed a Conference low 87 points, shutting out two teams, while the Hurricanes allowed the second fewest with 118, pitching one shutout.

During the regular season the Hurricanes liked the second quarter, scoring 13 points a game.  It’s also the Beefeaters best quarter tallying 14.7 points in the second frame.

Offensively the Beefeaters liked the throw the ball relying on the arms of Clarke McCallum and injured starter Jake Pow. McCallum completed 55% of his throws and connected on 11 touchdowns.  Pow threw five touchdown passes in his limited play.  Their best weapon is running back Tazie Vang-Bell who was named an Ontario Conference All-Star with 39 carries for 414 yards and six touchdowns.  He also led his club with 17 receptions averaging 20.5 yards a catch and scored three more major.

The Hurricanes also like the throw the ball with quarterback Ethan Belbeck.  He completed a Conference high 116 passes and a 63% completion percentage.  He threw for 1618 yards and 16 touchdowns.  Three of his receivers combined to gain 1277 of his 1618 total yards.  Keyshaun Jordan gained 463 yards on 22 receptions and averaged 21 yards a catch, good for nine touchdowns.  Quincey Belanger led the Canes with 33 receptions, good for 409 yards and three touchdowns.

It appears the weather also likes a good passing game with virtually perfect conditions on Saturday, calling for mostly sunny skies and a high of 13.
