The best players from Week 8 across the country

The CJFL is proud to announce the Week 8 Players of the Week.

Offensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
QB Ethan Belbeck – Hamilton Hurricanes

In dominating performance on the weekend, Ethan Belbeck used both his strong arm and quick feet to lead the Hurricanes and keep them atop of the Ontario Conference standings.  He efficiently completed 15 of 22 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns.  He also scampered for two majors on the ground.

Prairie Conference
RB Ramone English – Edmonton Wildcats

In his best game of the season Ramone English had an outstanding road performance in Winnipeg.  He rushed 17 times, had two receptions for 201 total yards and three touchdowns in their second win of the season.

BC Conference
RB Andrew Pocrnic – Langley Rams

He had one of the best individual performances of the season in a high pressure first place showdown.  Andrew Pocrnic rushed 17 times for 127 yards and scored four touchdowns.  He added one reception for 20 yards.

Defensive Players the Week

Ontario Conference
DB Michael Worku – Windsor AKO Fratmen

In a big road win, Michael Worku established a no-fly zone in the Fratmen secondary.    He intercepted two passes on the day returning one of those passes for a defensive touchdown.  He also knocked down two passes as well as contributed three tackles.

Prairie Conference
DB Justin Hodinsky – Edmonton Huskies AND DB Brandyn Martin – Regina Thunder

For the first time this season the Defensive Player of the Week in the Prairie Conference resulted in a tie.  Justin Hodinsky compiled four solo tackles, had an assisted stop, a pair of knockdowns and two interceptions.  His counterpart of the Thunder Brandyn Martin also tallied four solo tackles, had an assisted stop, two interceptions and had a fumble recovery.

BC Conference
LB Cole Barron – Langley Rams

In a first place showdown the Rams completely dominated on the defensive side allowing just three points.   He collected 3.5 sacks, a tackle and had a pair of assisted tackles.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
KR Harvey Mafuta – GTA Grizzlies

Despite the loss to the Fratmen, Harvey Mafuta turned in the most exciting play of the weekend when he returned a kickoff 109 yards for a touchdown.  In all he returned six kicks for 205 yards for a 34.2 yard average.  Adding to his stellar day Mafuta also contributed 4 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown on offence.

Prairie Conference
K Rylan Keiter – Saskatoon Hilltops

Week in and week out the Hilltops seem to get outstanding individual performance from every facet of the game.  This past weekend kicker Rylan Keiter was a perfect three for three on his field goal attempts and was perfect on six converts.  He also booted 347 yards on seven kickoffs.

BC Conference
KR Jay Jackson – Langley Rams

When the Rams needed a play on special teams Jay Jackson was there to provide it.  He returned six kicks for 102 yards flipping the field in their favour.
