The Rams, Rebels and Sun win in Week 7

The defending Cullen Cup champion Langley Rams keep on rolling with a deadly combination of a balanced offensive attack and stifling defence.

On the offensive side quarterback Duncan Little collected 223 yards and threw touchdown passes to Liam Stewart and Jarryd Taylor.  On the ground Andrew Pocrnic led the way with a game high 12 carries, 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Defensively the Rams didn’t allow a point.  The Raiders points came from a single and a safety.  The defence had three sacks and Isaiah Okoli picked off a pass.  Kyle Clarot had a big game with four solo tackles, 1.5 sacks and a knockdown.

One of the only offensive bright spots for the Raiders came from quarterback Jake Laberge.  He completed 16 passes for 318 yards.  He also scrambled five times for 39 yards.

Meanwhile Matt Hill and a pair of sacks and Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty tied the Conference lead with his fourth interception of the season.

This weekend the Rams (6-0) will be on the Island again in a first place showdown with the Westshore Rebels (5-1) on Saturday afternoon and the Raiders (3-3) visit the Kamloops Broncos (0-6).

Valley Huskers 15

On a day when head coach Shane Beatty turned 50, the Rebels showed their appreciation recording a victory.  Quarterback Shawn Lal tallied 333 yards on 20 completions and threw three touchdown passes.  His favourite target was Hayden Crothers who caught a game high seven passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns.  Zach Lubin hauled in the other touchdown pass to go along with his 109 yards on the ground.

The Rebels defence tallied three sacks led by Byron Mackinnon who had 1.5 sacks, four solo tackles and a knockdown.

The Huskers played tough and didn’t back down shutting out the Rebels in the fourth quarter and scored eight of their 15 points in the final frame.   Quarterback Logan McDonald threw for 113 yards and had a touchdown pass to Ethan Diakow.

The most exciting play of the game came from returner Brandon Poulin who returned a missed field goal 118 yards for a touchdown.

Defensively the Huskers recorded three sacks led by David Steeves who had 1.5 sacks, five solo tackles and a fumble recovery.

This coming weekend the Rebels (5-1) host the Langley Rams (6-0) in a first place showdown while the Huskers (1-5) visit the Okanagan Sun (3-3) on Sunday.

Kamloops Broncos 9

The Sun used big second and third quarters to record their third win of the season scoring 14 and 16 points respectively.  Quarterback Alex Douglas had his best game of the season throwing for 198 yards and finding Chan Lual for a major.  He also rushed 32 yards and scored two touchdowns.   Kelton Kouri added a touchdown as well on the ground.

On defence Jonah Williams blocked a kick and recovered it for a 12 yard touchdown.   Liam Johnstone had the lone interception and Tyler Going had a team high six solo tackles.

The Broncos scored all nine of their points in the final quarter.  Pivot Nicolas Nica threw a touchdown pass to Garrett Kryzanowski and added a two point conversion.  They also had a single.

Darby Kwan led the defence with a game high seven tackles while Quinntinn Kocis intercepted a pass.

This coming weekend the Sun (3-3) host the Valley Huskers (1-5) and the Broncos (0-6) welcome the VI Raiders (3-3).
