Playing in their long awaited home opener the Hilltops scored 11 points in the fourth quarter including the game winning touchdown with just seconds to go to squeeze out a win against the Thunder.

With just 1:24 to go in the fourth Thunder kicker Eric Maximuik kicked a 45 yard field goal giving his club a one point lead.  After the Hilltops returned the kick-off to their own 45 yard line, they needed just five plays to get to the Thunder one yard line.  Hilltops back-up quarterback Doug Fleming fumbled on the goal line which was recovered by the Thunder.  However an offside penalty gave the Hilltops another chance and running back Ben Abrook made no mistake getting the game winning score going up and over.

Abrook finished with 128 yards on 30 carries and two majors.  Carter McLean also scored on the ground. Through the air quarterback Tyler Hermann finished with 21 completions for 245 and threw a pick.  Eight different receivers caught a pass.

Defensively the Hilltops gave up 428 yards of total offence including 333 yards through the air.  However they did force three turnovers.  Riley Keating led them with a team night six solo tackles.

The Thunder offence put up 10 points in the second half, but only three in the fourth quarter in the loss.  Quarterback Blake Scherle was very good with 25 completions for 333 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Ethan Douglas.  Isaac Foord hauled in a game high nine passes for 155 yards.  Meanwhile on the ground Maxwell Foerster scored a touchdown on six carries.

On the defensive side Brandyn Martin was solid with four tackles, a knockdown and the only interception of the game.

Next weekend both the Hilltops (4-0) and Thunder (2-2) will enjoy a bye week.

Calgary Colts 17
Edmonton Wildcats 12

Saturday night the Colts scored 14 of their 17 points in the fourth quarter and recorded their first win since October 8, 2017 when they beat the Wildcats in Edmonton.

Quarterback KJ Stembridge completed 12 passes for 205 yards and threw a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns finding Adley Mayala and Seguin Adeseye.

The only other scoring came from kicker Matt Stackhouse who connected on a 42 yard field goal in the second quarter.

Defensively the Colts got a big game from Mackenzie Bannatyne who had three tackles and three knockdowns.    Skye King was also solid recovering a pair of fumbles.

As a whole the Wildcats led for three quarters, but the fourth was their undoing.   Their lone touchdown came on the ground when Nathan Zacharias rumbled in for a major.

On the defensive side the Wildcats forced six turnovers including interceptions from Colton MacNeil and Matt Zarowny.  Evan Eide had a pair of sacks and Ty Smith tallied five tackles.

This coming weekend the Colts (1-3) and Wildcats (1-3) will enjoy a bye week.
