The best defensive players in the Prairie Conference are...

The Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and the Prairie Conference are pleased to announce the Defensive All Stars for the 2017 regular season.

The top ranked Saskatoon Hilltops lead all teams with six players named to the Defensive All-Star Team while the Edmonton Huskies have four.

Defensive Line:

Tom Schnitzler – Saskatoon Hilltops– 10 tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 1 sack, 2 blocked kicks, 3 knockdowns, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 2 interceptions

Donovan Burgmaier** – Edmonton Huskies – 16 tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 6 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 for a touchdown

Riley Pickett (pictured) – Saskatoon Hilltops – 15 tackles, 8 assisted tackles, 9 sacks* and 1 knockdown

Samson Abbott – Winnipeg Rifles – 19 tackles, 9 assisted tackles and 5 sacks

Linebackers:

Cameron Schnitzler – Saskatoon Hilltops (second consecutive year) – 33 tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception

Cody Peters – Saskatoon Hilltops – 30 tackles, 12 assisted tackles and 1 knockdown

Jassen Brown – Edmonton Huskies – 42 tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 knockdown, 1 forced fumble and 1 interception

Defensive Backs:

Jayden Dalke** – Edmonton Wildcats – 61 tackles*, 4 assisted tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception

Colton Holmes – Saskatoon Hilltops – 22 tackles, 9 assisted tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery and 1 knockdown

James Vause – Saskatoon Hilltops – 18 tackles, 10 assisted tackles, 2 knockdowns and 1 fumble recovery

Cordell Kadash – Regina Thunder -  15 tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 3 knockdowns and 2 interceptions

Justin Hodinsky – Edmonton Huskies – 31 tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 4 knockdowns, 2 fumble recoveries, 3 interceptions and 1 for a touchdown

Return Specialist:
Micheal Ritchott – Winnipeg Rifles –14 kick returns for 303 yards, averaging 22.3 yards

Punter:
Cole Sabourin – Edmonton Huskies – 53 punts, 1,521 net yards, 28.7 net average and 1 single point

The Prairie Conference will announce their Major Award winners on Friday morning followed by the Conference final that will kick-off at 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon when the Hilltops host the Regina Thunder.  The winner will host the CJFL National Semi-Final game next weekend.
