The best of the best from Week 8

The CJFL is proud to announce their Players of the Week following an exciting Week 8 across the league.

Offensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
RB Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette – Regina Thunder

In a wild finish in Regina on Saturday night Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette would score the winning touchdown with just 34 seconds left.  He was a force all night with 23 carries for 214 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  He added two receptions for 26 yards.

Ontario Conference
RB D’Angelo Knox – Windsor AKO Fratmen

His speed and power was difficult for the defence to contain on Saturday as D’Angelo Knox rushed 15 times for 172 yards and scored a touchdown in an emotional game.  Coming out of the backfield he caught two passes for 64 yards and another major.

BC Conference
RB Rhett Williams – VI Raiders

He was tremendous in the Raiders running attack on Saturday night. He carried the rock 16 times for 150 yards and scored a touchdown.  His ability to make defensive players miss was on display proudly this past weekend.

Defensive Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
LB Jonathan Bennett – Winnipeg Rifles

The Rifles defence did an excellent job for the majority of their game in Regina on Saturday. Linebacker Jonathan Bennett was outstanding with eight tackles; two assisted stops and recovered a fumble.

Ontario Conference
LB Ty Kelly – Hamilton Hurricanes

It was a first place showdown with the Windsor AKO Fratmen and the Hurricanes defence played excellent.  The Canes were led by linebacker Ty Kelly and his four tackles, three assisted stops, and 1.5 sacks.

BC Conference
DB Maleek Womack – Westshore Rebels

The Rebels secondary was busy on Saturday night, but they were up for the challenge.  Defensive back Maleek Womack was simply outstanding intercepting two passes, forcing a fumble, collected an assisted stop and a HUGE win over their Island rivals

Special Teams Players of the Week

Prairie Conference
K/P Cole Sabourin – Edmonton Huskies

For the third time this season Cole Sabourin has been honoured with a Player of the Week award.  Last weekend against their city rivals the kicker was 3 of 4 in field goals including hitting from 43 yards outs.  He also collected nine kicks that travelled 442 gross yards helping keep his squad undefeated.

Ontario Conference
KR/PR Marcus Severe – Ottawa Sooners

He was a threat each time he touched the ball.  Marcus Severe returned two kicks for touchdowns including an 88 yard sprint.  In all he returned four kicks 210 yards.

BC Conference
KR/PR Brycen Mayoh – VI Raiders

For the third time this season Brycen Mayoh is honoured.  On Saturday night against their island rivals he returned 10 kicks 188 yards giving the Raiders offence very good field position.  He is a threat each time he returns a kick.
