Regina Thunder 29
Winnipeg Rifles 24

Trailing by one point with 1:59 to go and 97 yards in front of the Regina Thunder seemed unlikely they would keep their win streak alive…cue the comeback.

Quarterback Sawyer Buettner drove the team the length of the field, aided by a pair of penalties then capped off with a game winning touchdown run from Victor St Pierre-Laviolette with 34 seconds left.  The improbable became reality.

The Thunder finished the game with 618 yards of total offence led by Buettner.  The quarterback finished 25 of 42 for 382 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Levi Paul.  St. Pierre-Laviolette rushed 23 times for 214 yards and had two majors.

Defensively the Thunder picked off four passes, three of which in the second half.

For the Rifles the loss is a heartbreaker after they scored with 1:59 remaining thanks to an 83 yard touchdown pass and run from quarterback Jonathan Remple finding Micheal Ritchott.
In all Remple completed eight passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns; Brendan Naujoks caught the other one.

On the ground Ritchott also scored a touchdown on 15 carries and 61 yards.

This weekend the Thunder (4-1) will visit the Edmonton Huskies (5-0) on Sunday afternoon and the Rifles (3-2) will visit the Saskatoon Hilltops (4-1).

Edmonton Huskies 40
Edmonton Wildcats 7

The Huskies continue to roll after 504 yards of total offence against the Wildcats who could only generate 168 total yards.
Huskies’ quarterback Brad Launhardt finished 16 of 28 for 255 yards and threw three touchdown passes.  As a matter of fact the Huskies used five different quarterbacks throwing to 10 different receivers.   Harrison Cabel led the charge with five receptions and a game high 70 yards.

On the defensive side the Huskies completely shut down the Wildcats offence.  They tallied four sacks, held them to 70 yards on the ground and 11 first downs.

Quarterback Justin Swedish scored the lone Wildcats touchdown with a four yard run.

The Huskies (5-0) will host the Regina Thunder (4-1) on Sunday in a huge game, while the Wildcats (0-5) will host the Hamilton Hurricanes (3-2) in a CJFL Interconference game on Saturday afternoon.

Saskatoon Hilltops 41
Calgary Colts 9

The Hilltops used an 11 point third quarter to pull away from the Colts on Sunday afternoon in Calgary.

The ground game helped propel the Hilltops with 254 yards by five different ball carriers.  Logan Fischer led the way with 19 carries and 97 yards with a touchdown.  Josh Ewanchyna sprinted seven times for 92 yards.

Quarterback Jordan Walls was again solid finding nine different receivers with his 13 completions, 153 yards and three touchdown passes.  Sam Mike, Ryan Turple and Jason Price each hauled in a major.

Defensively Riley Pickett had himself a game with four sacks.  The Hilltops also forced five turnovers and Cody Peters collected eight tackles.

The Colts started hot scoring all nine points in the first half on the strength of three Jaden Sheilan field goals including one from 44 yards out.

Offensively quarterback Bailey Wasdal was 20 of 36 for 243 yards using seven different receivers.  Jesse Kuntz was his favourite target making a game high six catches for 101 yards.

This coming weekend the Hilltops (4-1) will host the Winnipeg Rifles (3-2) on Sunday and the Colts (1-4) will welcome the London Beefeaters (4-1) in a CJFL Interconference game on Sunday afternoon.
