The Okanagan Sun have had a long list of ferocious pass rushers over the years.  Greg Hewko, Jermaine Haley, Steven Doege, Jonas Gering just to name a few.

In 2017 the Sun are hoping Cory McCoy can add his name to this decorated list.  The Kelowna native enters this third CJFL season coming off a terrific sophomore campaign that saw him collect six sacks.  Four of those sacks were incredibly in one game against the VI Raiders on September 24th.

As a rookie in 2015 McCoy was used sparingly on the defensive line playing behind Gering, Lucas Machado and Connor Novak.  That said he made an impression throughout that regular season that the coaching staff kept him on the playoff roster as well as the Canadian Bowl roster and he gained outstanding experience.

Last year McCoy immediately used that knowledge and made his presence felt and collected a pair of sacks in his first game of the season.  He was consistently in the backfield of the opposition putting pressure on the opposing offences.  Then everything aligned in that game against the Raiders on the 24th coming up just one sack shy of tying a CJFL single game record.

In the BC Conference final last year McCoy didn’t record a sack, but did lead the Sun with eight tackles.

Sun head coach Ben McCauley says, “Cory has excellent speed and the ability to finish. He has been waiting for his turn behind some impressive pass-rushers. He's next in line in the Rutland high school pass-rush dynasty (Doege, Gering, now McCoy).”

McCoy and the Sun open the CJFL season on July 29th at home in a rematch of last year’s BC Conference Cullen Cup championship game with the Westshore Rebels.
