For the 19th time in history the Hilltops are the best

The Saskatoon Hilltops are the champions of the Canadian Bowl presented by Baron Championship Rings for sixth time in seven years after a 37-25 victory over the Westshore Rebels on Saturday.

The Hilltops pounded the ball on the ground collecting 298 yards and scored a touchdown.  Offensive Player of the Game running back Logan Fischer rushed 28 times for 202 yards and came out of the backfield and caught four passes for 43 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns.

Quarterback Jared Andreychuk finishes his junior career at 9-0 in the post season and wins his fourth Canadian Bowl.  He completed just 10 passes for 220 yards and threw three majors including finding Jason Price from 47 yards out.

The turning point came in the third quarter, after the Rebels took their first lead of the game on an Ashton MacKinnon touchdown dive.  On the ensuing kick-off rookie Josh Ewanchyna returned it 105 yards for a major, tying a CJFL record.

MacKinnon finished the game 12 of 24 for 181 yards through the air and rushed 13 times for 60 yards and had the touchdown.

The Hilltops defence contained MacKinnon and Offensive Player of the Year Jamel Lyles for the most part.  Lyles did rush for 141 yards on 16 carries but was held off the score sheet.  Linebacker Cody Peters was named the Defensive Player of the Game with nine solo tackles.  Jared Giddings intercepted a pass.

The Rebels defence did get on the scoreboard as Bryon MacKinnon intercepted a pass and returned it 66 yards for a touchdown.  It’s the third longest in Canadian Bowl history.

Since 2010 this is the second three-peat for the Hilltops and their 19th Canadian Bowl victory.
