Game recap

For the third straight season the Saskatoon Hilltops beat the Calgary Colts to win the Prairie Conference championship and will now represent the PFC in the 2016 Canadian Bowl on November 12.

On Sunday both offences picked apart two extremely talented defences with the Hilltops winning 43-31.

The Hilltops running attack was in full effect as Logan Fischer rushed 28 times for 137 yards with two touchdowns.  In all the champs gained 203 yards on the ground.

Conference MVP quarterback Jared Andreychuk was outstanding again completing 15 of 23 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns.  He found Rylan Kleiter twice, and hit Fischer out of the backfield.    Back-up pivot Jordan Walls got into the game and found Colin Stumborg for a 15 yard strike as well.

The Hilltops defence bent but did not break led by Cody Peters who was simply a beast.   He made nine solo tackles, had four assists, three special teams tackles and a fumble recovery.  They forced three Colt turnovers after Jared Giddings intercepted a pass and Garth Knittig jumped on a fumble.

The Colts offence didn’t get going until the second half which proved too little too late.  They scored just four points in the first half.

Quarterback Bailey Wasdal was 27 of 37 for 300 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes, finding All-Star Dylan Schrot and running back Dylan Minshull out of the backfield. Speaking of Minshull he rushed 18 times for 121 yards and two majors.

The Colts defence was pushed around most of the day and weren’t able to force a turnover.  Prairie Conference Rookie of the Year Austin Daisy led his club with six solo tackles.   Justin Sambu had a sack, while Colton Burr and Kenrick Ankamah shared one.

The Hilltops move on to the Canadian Bowl to face the BC Conference champion Westshore Rebels in a rematch of the 2003 National final.  They kick-off Saturday November 12 at 1:00pm.
