The Rebels beat the Sun 32-21

For just the second time in franchise history the Westshore Rebels are BC Conference champs with a 32-21 victory over the Okanagan Sun on Saturday.

The Rebels scored 25 of their 32 points in the first half and dominated on the ground.  In all the Rebels tallied 323 yards running the football; Jamel Lyles collecting 161 yards on 23 carries and had a touchdown.

Quarterback Ashton MacKinnon was named Offensive Player of the Game finishing 9 of 17 for 173 yards and threw three touchdowns.  He was also outstanding running the ball.  MacKinnon threw majors to Tyvon Blake, Birhanu Yitna and Trey Campbell.

Defensively the Rebels forced eight Sun turnovers including three fumble recoveries.

The Sun started to fight back in the third quarter as Keith Zyla took over at quarterback.  With the Sun trailing 32-0, Zyla punched in from a yard out to get on the board.  He then threw a touchdown pass to Sharmar Donelson on the last play of the third quarter.

Kyler Mosley scored the final touchdown for the Sun with a three yard run.

Penalties were an issue for both teams.  The Rebels collected 19 for 180 yards while the Sun had eight for 75 yards.

The Rebels will now host their first Canadian Bowl on Saturday November 12 against either the Saskatoon Hilltops or Calgary Colts.
