With their seventh win of the season, the Rebels clinched first place in the BCFC and home field advantage throughout the CJFL playoffs for the first time in franchise history

The Rebels running attack was simply unstoppable against a very good Rams front seven.  Jamel Lyles continues to impress carrying 16 times for 184 yards and scored four touchdowns.  He also caught the ball out of the backfield, and returned kicks tallying 289 all-purpose yards.  With this total he sets a new single season BCFC record with 2,181 all-purpose yards with a game to go.  Quarterback Ashton MacKinnon also rushed 11 times for 113 yards.

Through the air MacKinnon completed just nine passes but the loudest set a new BCFC record.  A 109 yard bomb caught by Nathaniel Pinto is now the Conference’s longest pass reception in a game.

Defensively the Rebels forced four Rams interceptions, by four different players.

The Rams on the other side of the field saw running back Joe Carter carry 16 times for 124 yards and quarterback Tommy Richardson finished 13 of 25 for 140 yards, but threw three interceptions.

On the defensive side the Rams were shell shocked giving up 529 yards of total offence, the most they’ve given up this year.

Rams’ kicker Tiernan Docherty booted five field goals setting a new team record.

Saturday night the Rebels (7-1-1) will host the Kamloops Broncos (2-7) while the Rams (6-3) visit the Okanagan Sun (6-3) on Sunday afternoon with a home playoff date on the line.

VI Raiders 14
Okanagan Sun 8

It wasn’t one of the prettiest games ever played, but the Raiders found a way to get back to 500 heading into the regular season finale.  The Raiders defence forced eight Sun turnovers including three interceptions by three different players; Dexter Shea, Josh Paisley and Jeremie Cheng. Shea also had nine tackles, while both Cole Virtanen and Nathan Mayers each had seven.

Offensively Raiders’ quarterback Jacob Laberge was 13 of 30 for 241 yards and threw a 54 yard touchdown pass to Fabian Jacobsen

While the Sun offence struggled in the light rain, the defence played great giving up just one touchdown.  Cory McCoy was a monster with four sacks and three solo tackles.  Jonas Gering had a sack and five solo tackles and Jamie Turek intercepted a pass.

The lone Sun touchdown came from a Keith Zyla run.

The Sun have lost three straight games for just the third time in franchise history,

The Raiders (4-4-1) will wrap up the regular season in Chilliwack taking on the Huskers (0-9) on Saturday.  The game means nothing in the standings for either team.  The Raiders will finish fourth and play at the Westshore Rebels in one of the Canadian Bowl quarterfinals.  The Sun (6-3) will host the Langley Rams (6-3) to determine second place.

Kamloops Broncos 38
Valley Huskers 33

For the second time in three weeks the Broncos beat the Huskers in a thrilling game with plenty of passing, 561 passing yards to be exact.

Broncos’ quarterbacks Colby Henkel and Ryan Derkson combined for 13 completions, 202 yards and three touchdowns.  Broden Romanovitch, Colin Mather and Brody Bernier each caught a major

The Broncos defence forced eight Husker turnovers, including a 65 yard pick-six from Jordan Angove.  It was his eighth interception of the year setting a new Broncos team record.  Angove also set two other Broncos’ team records.  He set a new club mark for kick-off returns in a single season and most kick-off return yards

The Huskers passing game was again on display as second year quarterback Noah Falconer finished 19 of 44 for 359 yards and threw a pair of touchdown passes to Keenan Godden.  Falconer also ran for a touchdown.

Not to be undone, the Huskers defence was good despite giving up 38 points.  Travis Dietrich had five solo tackles and recovered two fumbles, one of which was for a 26 yard touchdown.

The Broncos (2-7) will finish the regular season on the road with a visit to the Westshore Rebels (7-1-1) on Saturday afternoon.  The Huskers (0-9) will try for their first win of the season when they host the VI Raiders (4-4-1) at 1:00pm.
