The Sun, Raiders and Rebels each win before the bye week

Week 6 in the BCFC saw the Okanagan Sun, VI Raiders and Wetshore Rebels each record a win.

Okanagan Sun 15
Langley Rams 10

The BCFC Game of the Week was a defensive struggle not giving fans much to cheer about with a total of 20 punts.  The Sun defence pitched a shutout, allowing three field goals and single point on a missed field goal.  They forced six turnovers including Jamie Turek recovering a fumbled punt return in the endzone for a touchdown.

Offensively the Sun scored one touchdown, a 23 yard run by quarterback Keith Zyla in the fourth quarter giving the Sun the lead for good.  Zyla finished with 84 yards on the ground and just 94 through the air.

The Rams best offensive weapon was kicker Tiernan Docherty who pounded three field goals, his longest from 47 yards out.

Defensively they forced five turnovers and Jesse Cervas finished with a game high eight tackles.

Both teams head into the Labour Day bye week.  On September 10 the Sun (6-0) will visit the Westshore Rebels (5-1) while the Rams (4-2) host the VI Raiders (3-3).

VI Raiders 16
Kamloops Broncos 13

It was a very wet and dark night in Kamloops, but the Raiders found some light late in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback and sweep the seasonal series.

The Raiders trailed by 10 at the half, but then found their legs in the second half behind three field goals from James Parker and their lone touchdown from Nathan Berg.  Due to the weather the Raiders predominantly used the run game behind Berg’s 29 carries and 186 yards.  Quarterback Jacob Laberge returned from an injury completing 12 passes for 109 yards.

Defensively the Raiders forced four turnovers including interceptions from Cole Virtanen and Jeremie Cheng.

The Broncos saw a solid game from quarterback Colby Henkel in the rain.  He completed 20 passes for 297 yards and threw a touchdown to Brody Bernier.

Defensive back Jordan Angove collected his CJFL leading sixth interception.

Following the Labour Day bye, the Raiders (3-3) will visit the Langley Rams (4-2) while the Broncos (0-6) will visit the Valley Huskers (0-6).

Westshore Rebels 45
Valley Huskers 28

For the second straight week the Rebels used their ground attack to sink the Huskers gaining 321 yards.  Jamel Lyles led the way with 272 yards on 25 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns.  He also ran a punt back for a major, giving him over 300 all-purpose yards for the third time this season.  This ties a BCFC record with Andrew Harris (2009) as the only players to reach this plateau in a single season.

Quarterback Ashton McKinnon ran for a pair of touchdowns and was 4-4 for 102 yards and threw a major to Nathaniel Pinto.

The Huskers had another solid game offensively gaining 385 yards of total offence, 356 of it through the air with quarterback Noah Falconer.  He finished 20 of 37 and threw four touchdown passes including a pair to Mike West who hauled in a game high six receptions for 121 yards.

These two clubs will enjoy the Labour Day bye week, then host a game on Saturday September 10.  The Rebels (5-1) will welcome the Okanagan Sun (6-0) and the Huskers (0-6) will play the Kamloops Broncos (0-6).
