The Rebels have something to prove in 2016

Expectations are high in Victoria this season as the Westshore Rebels are looking to improve on a two win season from a year ago.

Head Coach JC Boice has had a full year to recruit talented players and with the addition of Shane Beatty to the staff, the Rebels have filled most of their wish list.  This includes at the offensive line position.

Second year Rebel Aarmin Purewal will be relied upon to make a greater impact on the offence this season.  At 6’5, 290 pounds he will be a one of the anchors as the Rebels establish both their ground game and the aerial attack.

The Victoria native spent one year at the University of Western before returning to the island after a conversation with Head Coach Boice.  After hearing his vision for the team and coaching philosophy, Purewal knew Boice was the right coach to play for and wants desperately to bring a national title back to the island.

“Aarmin has become one of our ‘backbone of the program’ players,” says Boice.  “He is a great leader that is decisive in his approach and unites our players.  He is very talented and very driven.   He is coachable and always seeking ways to improve himself.  He is also active in our community programs.  Aside from training five days a week in our Rebel Off Season program, Aarmin is also a full time student and is always doing Rebel activities in the community. I have no doubt he will be another CJFL player that goes straight to the CFL.”

The Mt Douglas grad has felt a new energy with the Rebels this offseason training five days a week with his teammates under the supervision of the coaching staff.

The Rebels have a lot to prove in 2016 and it very well could start with Aarmin on the offensive line.

Aramin Purewal is a CJFL Weekend Warrior.
