The best individual performances last weekend

After an outstanding weekend of individual performances, the CJFL is pleased to announce the Week 5 Players of the Week.

Offensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
QB Maurice Sodja - St. Clair Saints

The Saints rookie quarterback completed 11 of 17 pass attempts for 255 yards and touchdowns to three different receivers.  When not shredding the Beefeaters secondary with his arm, Sodja used his legs to gallop for another 89 yards on eight carries as he led his team to victory over their bitter rivals in London.

Prairie Conference
RB Boston Davidsen – Saskatoon Hilltops

Sunday afternoon the Hilltops once again displayed a well-balanced offensive push in their lopsided home win. Running back Boston Davidsen led the way on the ground galloping to an impressive 190 yards on 15 carries, averaging over 12 yards a carry.  He also scored a touchdown on the ground.

BC Conference
QB Te Jessie – Westshore Rebels

The Rebels took sole possession of first place in the BC Conference after last weekend’s dominating performance over the Okanagan Sun.  Quarterback Te Jessie was the catalyst orchestrating the offence and contributing to six touchdowns.  He completed 22 passes for 303 yards, threw five touchdown passes and ran for another, leaping over the defender at the goal line.

Defensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
DB Teagan Good - Quinte Skyhawks

In winning his second consecutive defensive player of the week award, ball hawking defensive back Teagan Good once again terrorized the GTA quarterbacks as he picked off two more passes returning one for 40 yards and the other for six yards.  Good also contributed five solo tackles for 18 defensive points in the Skyhawks shutout of the Grizzlies.

Prairie Conference
LB Stephen Smith – Regina Thunder

Sunday afternoon the Thunder defence was stifling in their win on the road in Winnipeg.  Linebacker Stephen Smith stood tall and was all over the field. HE collected five tackles and chipped in with nine assisted tackles.

BC Conference
LB Kaya Saunders – VI Raiders

Despite the loss the Raiders defence played a solid game last weekend led by linebacker Kaya Saunders.  He intercepted a pass and returned it 42 yards, made five tackles, had two assisted stops and a knockdown.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
DB Dylan Roberts - London Beefeaters

Despite the loss, the special teams ace led the London kick coverage units in smothering a very dangerous St. Clair return game.  Roberts’ three solo tackles on special teams, part of his 11 tackles in the game, limited the Saints to 15 yards per kick return and a paltry 6.3 yard punt return average.

Prairie Conference
PK Shawn Green – Regina Thunder

Sunday afternoon the Thunder racked up 45 points and kicker Shawn Green was responsible 15 of those points.  He connected on three field goals, was a perfect 5-5 in coverts and even punted the ball nine times averaging over 27 yards each kick.

BC Conference
PK Brady Harper – Prince George Kodiaks

For the second straight week Kodiaks’ kicker Brady Harper wins this honour after helping propel his club to their second consecutive win, a franchise first.  He connected on three field goals, including the game winner in the fourth quarter.
